Mr. Baker’s Rules and Stuff

The school rules and the county dress code are listed in your student handbook. They apply at all times. The rules below apply whenever you are in my classroom.

  1. Be on task from bell to dismissal. On task means in your seat doing what I expect (taking notes, working on assignments, etc.). Note that the bell at the end of class does not dismiss you, I do. We will not leave until everyone is seated and quiet with all equipment put away.
  2. Respect yourself and others. There are a lot of words I don’t like (more than the television censors) and I don’t expect you to say them. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.
  3. Raise your hand if you wish to speak. If you have something to add to the class, let me recognize you before you add it. If you have something to say to a friend, it can wait until after class. If there is music playing, you may talk beneath it.
  4. No food allowed in the room. Bottled drinks are allowed as long as they have lids. No cans, no cups, no candy, no sunflower seeds, no breakfast, no nothing. Gum is okay as long as it doesn’t get stuck under my desks.
  5. Follow directions the first time. I don’t like to repeat myself, so listen.

Consequences: The first time you break a rule, I will give you a formal warning. The second time, you get a writing assignment (probably something long and educational). Third time, parent phone call. If it goes beyond that, you will be referred to the office.

Flagrant or recurring offenses will be referred directly to the office. Parents will likely be contacted as well.

Rewards: If you (as an individual or a class) behave exceptionally, I’ll want to reward you. I may say nice things, give bonus points, reduce assignments, award social time at the end of class, award special privileges, build a mashed potato statue in your honor, or do some other nice thing that occurs to me. Do remember, the more rewards you ask for, the fewer you will receive.

Final note: If you and/or your parent/guardian has any questions, comments, requests, or special needs, please let me know. I can be reached through the school (484-5767) or by email (bakers8@k12tn.net). I am always eager to discuss your education with someone who cares.
